Once upon a time

Once upon a time...

I didn't know about SLIS or ella or ssh or UNIX or much of anything about computers, and especially not about grep.

Thanks to SLIS and L401, however, I have a basic understanding of these interesting but most likely useless terms.

Ah, life! Learning piles of mostly useless information.

so you've been ssh-in into Unix servers and greping for info all over the place, eh? so how does it feel to know about nerdy things?

i always remember the day my geekiness was solidified. my friends and i were watching Simpsons. it was the one where Homer decided to start up an ISP and comic book guy comes to him saying he requires an internet connection that can interface with his pre-exisiting token-ring lan. my friends were all like, "what the hell is he talking about?" and i had the look on my face like it all made sense. then they nonchalantly asked me to explain and proceeded to make fun of me for like 6 months afterwards.

Oh Chalupa! Thanks for understanding. It feels strange to be so nerdy, and yet the knowledge is kind of fun to have. Go figure!

How are YOU doing? Haven't seen you in forever. Hope all is well.

Hey Lana! Doing great. Work is going well, I'm taking a class for free again, and you know about me and Liz. Things are going pretty well. All I got to say is 3 cheers for AZ. I bet it's nice there right now.

AZ is great right now! Upper 80's, sunny, perfectly gorgeous. Geek or no geek, you can't stay inside in Arizona right now. Too bad I don't have a laptop...

Ok. Time for me to go to bed. I could've sworn you just talked about ssh and grep. Next thing you know you'll know how to leave things running when you're not logged on with screen or you'll be using perl to parse enormous amounts of data.

But what you really need to know is that egrep is much better than grep because it lets you use extended regex syntax.

Yeah. Bed.
