I'd like some advice.
It's no news to anyone who knows me that I'm a selfish person. Really. Partly, it goes with my personality - as you can learn from reading the Enneagram books - but mostly, I think, it's a personal problem that I need to deal with.
Every year, I think I take positive steps toward getting away from the Lana who was so self-absorbed that she made me sick. But I'm far from ridding myself of her.
Ask any of my friends, they will agree.
I don't think that I ask their opinions on how I can change this. So, Friends, what do you think? Any ideas?
Tips on How to Be a Good Friend are welcome. Tips on How to Be Friendly and not Scary, are also welcome.
My boss told me this past week that of all the students hired this term, I'm the scariest. He went on to say that no one knows where I'm coming from - they don't know what I'm thinking and can't guess what I'm going to say.
Friends, am I that scary? What can I do to be more approachable.
I'm serious, I'd like to hear suggestions.
I miss you, my dear friends. Can't wait to hear from you.

Maybe the next time somebody approaches you, you should just beat them up. That would help you build a reputation.
Great suggestion, Chalupa. I'll try to find the best moment to implement that.
So here's a formula for gathering a large following:
Everywhere you go, have a backpack full of "spontaneous and personal gifts" and whenever you meet someone, whip out a gift and give them "3 ups" , i.e.
*I like your hair
*You're fun
*Don't ever change
Plus, never ever, stop with the big cheesy grin.
So, they might peg you for a future mugshot on America's Most Wanted in the psycho dept., but they'd never think, SELFISH. Really.
Lana,
It always strikes me as funny that people think you are scary. Yes, you may be slightly difficult to read sometimes, but what human being isn't? Do people really think that happy smiley people are always happy smiley inside? They're as difficult to interpret as anyone else!
Instead of a suggestion, I feel like telling you that I never found you intimidating or mean. When we first met and didn't know each other very well, I still thought you were fun and likeable. I was never EVER scared of you. (I've been scared with you, probably, but never of you.)
I think that people need to lighten up.
By the way, Mr. Claus is weeping in the garage right now. He's not scared of you, either. In fact, I'm sure he wishes you were here.
